What's happening around Lancaster this week?

The City of Lancaster will commemorate the seventh anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks by holding ceremony at Binns Park on Thursday. Starting around noon, "[t]he City's Police and Fire Honor Guard will begin the event with the Presentation of Colors, followed by remarks from Mayor Gray. " The J.P. McCaskey High School gospel choir will perform and those in attendance are asked to wear red, white, and blue.

The Lancaster Barnstormers play home games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (Sep. 12-14) against the Bridgeport Bluefish. Friday's game is at 7:05 p.m. and will feature fireworks. Saturday's game is also at 7:05 p.m. Sunday's game is at 1:35 p.m. and will feature a commemorative baseball giveaway. This weekend is "Wheels! Wheels! Wheels!" in downtown Lancaster. "Join us downtown as we celebrate everything Wheels. Weekend activities include entertainment, sidewalk sales, car show, and Lancaster Museum of Art’s Barnstorm motorcycle tour and art exhibit." All day Saturday and Sunday (Sep. 13-14).

On Wednesday, September 10, Millersville University Presents a film in its Humanities Film Series: "Praying with Lior." "Lior has Down syndrome, and has spent his entire life praying with utter abandon. Is he a ‘spiritual genius’ as many around him say? On Friday, September 12, Garden Spot High School in New Holland is hosting a fundraising "Chicken Barbeque." Sponsored by Spartan Pride Alumni Association, proceeds benefit the SPAA Scholarship Fund. A half-chicken is $4. Garden Spot High School is located at 669 E. Main Street, New Holland on Rt. 23.

Also on Friday, September 12, the Leola Freeze & Frizz is showing a free movie - The Lion King. The film is showing at 7:00 p.m. Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets.
Food and drinks are available for purchase, but may not be carried onto the premises. The Leola Freeze & Frizz (a restaurant) is located at 2250 New Holland Pike in Leola.

And on Saturday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m, the Freeze & Frizz is showing the movie "Vantage Point." Also at 7:00 p.m.

As part of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, the Mount Hope Estate & Winery in Manheim is hosting "Friday Knights at the Improv," stand-up comedy acts for adults by Renaissance Faire actors who break character and do a little improvisation. The Lancaster Campus of Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) is holding "CommUnity FamilyFEST 2008" on Saturday September 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. "Bringing together our residents and first responders for a day of family fun, music, and understanding. Includes musical entertainment, children's games, face painting, entertainment, arts & crafts, chicken BBQ and a number of vendors." There is no cost for admission. The Wine & Cheese Train at the Strasburg Railroad runs on Saturday September 13th. Enjoy a scenic, 45-minute train ride through the countryside while tasting fine wines and cheeses.
