Home Rule discussion to occur on Pennsylvania Newsmakers this Sunday

The proposed Home Rule Charter will be the subject of discussion on the television show Pennsylvania Newsmakers this Sunday, September 7, according to the secretary of the Lancaster County Government Study Commission.

Study Commission members Sam Mecum, a Democrat, and Heidi Wheaton, a Republican, are expected to appear on Sunday's program.

Pennsylvania Newsmakers is hosted by Franklin & Marshall College political science professor and professional pollster G. Terry Madonna. It airs on WGAL-8 at 11:00 a.m. immediately following Meet the Press.

If approved by the voters in November, the Home Rule Charter would increase the number of Commissioners from three to five, and place more authority in the hands of a County Administrator. It would also provide for citizen ballot initiative and establish an office of management and budget.

If approved, two new Commissioners would be elected in November 2009. You can read the Government Study Commission's Final Report and Home Rule Charter in its entirety here. Additional information is avilable on the Commission's website at www.homeruleinfo.com.
